Dear Anon Who Thinks They’re Being Cute:

It is possible to enjoy a piece of art for the art’s sake, without
needing any of the background of it.  It is possible to like a single
piece of work (art, fiction, whatever) without liking the creator.  It
is possible to dislike a popular author/artist’s work because you don’t
like it.

And you may have some very good reasons for it.  I agree with people
other then you about Butterfish.  I don’t like the plot, the pacing or
the characterizations, because they don’t feel right, they don’t read right to me.  And guess what?  That is my opinion and it is as valid one as anyone else’s
I don’t have to like their writing to like a pairing.  I don’t really
like GerItalia but darn if there aren’t some truly excellent works about
them.  Some of which I do have bookmarked and re-read on occasion.  In
an another example, I don’t really like Susan of Susan’s Stories in the
“The Sentinel” fandom.  However I cannot get enough of her GDP series,
but cannot get through any of her other works.

If you ask me to
point out a fic that utterly defines the UsUk interaction together?  It
wouldn’t be American Dreams in an English Village, that’s for sure. I
would suggest a newcomer to the UsUk LJ Comm start with the Kink Meme
list - and be sure to check all the Art fills because they tend to be
really good.  As for a writer, I suggest Childsadism for the more
darker, sadistic stuff and Jade_Rzeznic for well, everything really.  I
only wish I could write with the ease they seem to.

Regardless of what you said, I would not put any of my own work up as a defining story
That’s stupid, and really, they aren’t.  I don’t write for someone
else.  I write for me. I write the stories I want to read frankly - and
it’s not your thing, I’m ok with that.  There’re prolly people writing
and drawing out there that is creating things you like.  I don’t want
you to read my stuff because you have to.

I want you to read my stuff because you want to, and you like it.

I do like constructive criticisms.  I go out of my way to get it
sometimes. I welcome it.  I do not welcome comments like “You suck.  You
aren’t believable and your writing is horrific” or
“L2SpellCheck/GrammerCheck”.  I will and have deleted comments like that
- and will continue to.

I don’t know but suspect I know who you are.  I will do us both the
favor of not calling anyone out or say anymore on the subject.  However I
have lost respect for people who hide behind an Anon tag and think
harassment is the answer for people not liking someone’s work.

If anything, I feel for Butterfish.  I feel sorry that they have been
dragged into this, and that it has gotten so viscous.  It cannot feel
good to look at this mess.  I hope it doesn’t discourage Butterfish from
writing - while it’s not for me, it is for other people.  In fact I
really hope that Butterfish keeps writing.  Why?  Because they obviously
enjoy writing - and the UsUk fandom.  And who am I to determine what is
allowable or not?  I can only choose what I like, not someone else,
after all.

And I cannot, or will I, choose for someone else what they like.

Sincerely,

Me.
