Summary: Russia hates America - for a reason.
Note(s): This is what wouldn't stop going around in my head after a comment asking for more Geophysical fills. I have an unhealthy interest in Ways The World Could End, and the Siberian Traps are pretty fascinating - along with Human migration through out the ages. This is the result.
Russia listens to America drone on about some stupid little invention that will inevitably, end up being actually useful. It's happened in the past - Airplanes, subs, Phones, Iphones, Computers, Nuclear bombs. Without a doubt, this stupid thing will end up serving purpose.
As America blathers on about this latest invention, Russia settles back and waits. He hates these meetings as they're rather useless and stupid.
He hates America as well - and Canada too.
They are perhaps, he thinks, some of the world's greatest liars. They are so good at lying, that they have successfully lied to themselves. Russia has never had the luxury of being able to lie that well to himself. He loathes the North American brothers for it. America pretends to be one of the youngest nations in the world along with his brother.
It's a lie.
Russia knows they are old. It was through him that The People walked, steadily marching onwards to a New World intent on leaving him behind in favor of this new, strange world. His memory of that awakening is fuzzy, and distant. But The People marched to North America over 20,000 years ago steadily and quietly and moved southwards. It was the first of many times Russia would be left, abandon by his people, his soul, for another. The hurt from losing them made him give his heart to General Winter, rather then suffer the pain again of losing his people.
Mexico never claimed to be anything but what she was - the wild, blood hungry woman born of Empires. She was a child with the Olmec, and a war weary teenager by the time Spain came to lay waste to her Aztecs. Spain once described her as a feral woman - with eyes of darkest jungle green, skin the color of her sun burnt rocks and hair as black as night - and a thirst for blood and life that rivaled his own. Russia might like her. She's independent, and headstrong. Mexico lives every day to it's fullest. Yes, Russia might like her and might invite her to become one with him again, but she lies to herself too. Just not as well as America or Canada.
Russia's People became, slowly, over time, Canada's, America's then Mexico's and then onwards to South America.
Yet another lie he thinks. Canada is older then America, not that America nor Canada will say so. And both of them older still then their South American or Pacific cousins.
No matter what China claims, he is not the eldest among them. That honor lies with the African nations, who watch their World Meetings with tired eyes, and worn souls. It was in the heart of Africa that humanity, one of the things that created them, were born. Humans give substance to them - flesh, blood, and skin. The Africans are over a million years old. China by contrast had gained his children, his soul, 160,000 years ago. To the Africans, the rest of the world are mere infants, futility waving their hands in the air, demanding attention, NOW.
Humans make up a Nation's soul, it drives them, it gives flesh to bone, breathes an idea to life.
But, the bones of a nation is the land.
And the land was born from The Mother.
Mother, maiden, crone.
Elder.
Grandmother.
There are many names for She Who Came Before. Russia thinks of her as 'Mother' and has only a vague memory of comfort, warmth and feeling protected, sheltered.
Russia's birth is an event that his bones remember, but he himself does not. The rocks and soil of his land tell him and his children the story of how he was born not of ice and winter, but of fire and brimstone - and of death.
260 million years ago, Siberia erupted in an event so massive that it lead to a mass extinction and the end of an era. Stemming from a huge mantle plum, the Siberian Traps flooded an area roughly the size of the 48 of America's Continental States. The amount of rock, ash, and deadly gases thrown up is unimaginable - even to Russia who an imagine quite a bit. The Permian-Triassic ended with Russia's birth. Flood basalt flowed over his bones, and sent destructive, suffocating gases into he air, choking the very lives out of the animals who lived. The marine life died in masses, the land based creatures melted where they stood. Life teetered on the brink for the planet and it took 30 million years for the planet to recover. No one before his birth or since his birth has created such a destruction
His tantrum at being born was furious, red hot and deadly. He alone ended nearly 90% of all life on the planet; is it any wonder why his fellow nations avoid him still today? They may not know or understand why, but the memory of what he did lies in their very bones - and no one can avoid that. Russia nearly ended them all before they even started. In their shoes, he would treat the misfit as an outcast as well.
But he tells himself, he wasn't really there.
He may have been born, but he was an it, a thing, unknown, un-named and just a mass of bones and land. He wasn't really formed yet. It takes, after all, people to make a nation. People take the formless mass left behind by Mother and then form it, shape it, and name them Home.
Russia hates America and Canada for lying.
He hates the world for lying.
But mostly, he hates himself for lying to himself.

Siberian Traps:
The Siberian traps happened about 260-ish hmillion years ago. Give or take a few million years. It happened at nearly the exact time as the largest mass die-off EVER happened, the Permian-Triassic ended. Basically, the earth and everything on it nearly died. 90% of all life vanished.The Siberian traps is a huge, massive chunk of land in (ahah) Siberia.
Africa: Humanity is thought to have formed and begun in Africa. My own headcanon says that due to that, the African countries are prolly a lot older since they've had people a lot longer.
America, Canada and Mexico: Most theories have people crossing a land bridge between Russia and Alaska 20,000 years ago. Most Western histories skip over this, but pre-Colombian North America had Empires - Aztec, Inca and Maya are some of the more famous, but there was also the Clovis, the Iroquois League of Nations, the Olmec and the Toltec to name a few. Even in my world history 101, these and other North and South American Empires are glossed over and little more then footnotes.
